In Three Volumes. Illustrated with Cuts, and a great Variety of Charts and Maps relative to Countries now first discovered, or hitherto but imperfectly known. London: Printed for W. Strahan; and T. Cadell, 1773. First edition. Three large quarto volumes (approximately 11.25 x 9 inches). xxxvi, [1-3], 4-139 (also numbered 360), blank , [361-363], 364-676; [xvi], 410; [vi], [411], 412-799, blank pages. 51 plates and charts, some folding. All volumes collate complete. Period calf bindings, with gilt floral borders to boards, inner dentelles, and gilt titles and decorations to spine and to red and black leather spine labels. Leather quite worn and rubbed, with loss to leather at extremities, sometimes with loss to boards. A few spine labels missing. Old repairs, but bindings still quite sturdy. Minor occasional foxing. Occasional chips or tears to leaves; tear to fold-out chart of New South Wales, measuring approximately 1.25 inches. An overall very good copy.

First edition of the classic work detailing Cook's first voyage (1768-1771) as he explored the Pacific, charting Australia, New Zealand, and Tahiti.
