The Very Rare First Issue in the Original Wrappers
W. B. Yeats. The Land of Heart's Desire. London: T. Fisher Unwin, 1894.First edition, first issue, with no fleurons after the word "Desire" on the front wrapper. Small octavo. 43 [i.e. 41, with half-title removed], [1, blank], [2, advertisement leaf], [2, imprint leaf] pages. Wood-engraved title page illustration by Aubrey Beardsley.
Publisher's original decorative wrappers with Beardsley engraving repeated on front cover. Significant wear to the wrappers, with a few areas of noticeable loss around the edges, especially at the top of the upper wrapper. Approximately one-third of the spine perished. Top and bottom turn-ins of wrappers either missing or detached; flaps still present. Internal contents clean. A rather worn, unsophisticated copy of a rare and fragile Yeats stage production. Fair condition.
