First edition, first issue per Hammond, with signature mark "4" at the base of page 49 and all lines on the page sagging in the middle. Octavo. 416 pages. Large folding map tipped in back. Publisher's red cloth with gilt spine. Top edge stained red. Two examples of the original pictorial dust jacket. Minor shelf wear to the cloth, with one bottom corner bumped. Interior jacket worn and soiled, with a four-inch smile-shaped closed tear to the spine and rear panel. Spine sunned. Minimal loss at the spine tail. Outer jacket with minor rubbing and a bit wrinkled along the edges, with a very short closed tear to the top edge of the front panel. Overall, a very good copy. Hammond A5iii.
