Description

Inscribed by Frank Lloyd Wright to His Client, Albert Dell German

Frank Lloyd Wright. An Autobiography. London New York Toronto: Longmans, Green and Company, 1932.

First edition, inscribed and signed by the author, "To Albert German / A client and a 'stand-by' / from Frank Lloyd Wright" on the half-title page. Large octavo. 371 pages. Illustrated section titles and black and white photographic illustrations at the rear.

Publisher's black cloth, lettered and geometrically illustrated in gilt and red. Moderate wear and rubbing to the boards. Spine head chipped. Minor abrading to the spine cloth. Very minor spotting to text edges. Unobtrusive previous ownership inscription on the front pastedown. A very good copy, with an intimate association inscription from the most famous American architect in recent memory.

Frank Lloyd Wright inscribed this copy to Albert Dell German, the namesake of and for whom Wright designed the A. D. German Warehouse in 1915 in Richland Center, Wisconsin, Wright's birthplace. Interestingly, the A. D. German Warehouse is the only building Wright designed in his childhood hometown, and his only warehouse.
