Description

With an Original W. W. Denslow Drawing and Inscription

L. Frank Baum. Father Goose. His Book. Chicago: Geo. M. Hill Co., [1899]. First edition. Inscribed by Denslow on the front free endpaper, "To Miss Elsa Longyear with compliments of W. W. Denslow." Above the inscription, Denslow has drawn a charming scene of a little girl watching longingly as a tiny ship sails away into the distance. Drawing is signed with Denslow's seahorse monogram. Large quarto. Unpaginated. Publisher's pictorial boards printed in yellow, orange, black, and white. Boards are heavily worn with soiling and dampstaining. Backstrip repaired and hinges reinforced. Page edges toned, four pages having repairs to lower corner and fore-edge. Still, a good copy. A rare Baum title in any condition, made even more rare with original artwork by Denslow.
