The First Edition, First Issue of Darwin's On the Movements and Habits of Climbing Plants in the Rare Original Wrappers
Charles Darwin. On the Movements and Habits of
Climbing Plants. In The Journal of the Linnean
Society, Volume IX, Nos. 33 & 34. London: Sold at the Society's
Apartments, Burlington House; and by Longman, Green, Longman,
Roberts, & Green, and Williams and Norgate, 1865. First edition,
first issue. Octavo. 128 pages. Illustrated with thirteen
intertextual woodblock illustrations by Darwin's son, George.
Publisher's original printed blue wrappers. Some wear and chipping
to spine and corners, some creasing, wear and very minor foxing to
wrappers, neat ink number on spine, gutters just starting at top
and bottom of text leaves, yet still quite solid. Most pages
unopened. Still, a near fine copy of this fragile item, seldom seen
in the original wrappers. Housed in cloth clamshell case. Freeman
