Arthur Wellesley Wellington Autograph Letter Signed "Duke of Wellington" in the third person. One page, 4.5" x 7" (sight), April 9, 1851, London, to George Sinclair. Toned and fine. Matted and framed with an impressive image of the Duke to an overall size of 13" x 22.5".

More Information:

The Duke (1769-1852) is most known for defeating Napoleon at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815; he later served as British prime minister from 1828 through 1830.Here, he writes in part: "The Duke of Wellington sends his compliments to Mr. Sinclair. He has viewed his letter of the 7th. Mr. Sinclair is mistaken; the Commanding Chief of the Army has no control over the War Office! The Duke is very unwilling to involve himself in discrepancies with any part of the troops or matter in which national are involved. He declines to discuss the question of the kilt!"
