Walton, a former delegate to the Continental Congress, signer of the Declaration of Independence, and, most recently, governor of Georgia, penned this letter to an unknown recipient offering his services in business, in part: "Understanding that you are about to organize and establish the details of the Ware Houses according to the act and Practice therein; and having a number of Coopers under the direction of a responsible white man, I should be glad to undertake that part of the business at the . . . Ware Houses, in the whole, or in part." In addition to being a politician, Walton was a soldier, serving briefly in the Georgia militia as a colonel in 1778, defending the city of Savannah in 1779. The majority of the address leaf is trimmed. Folds are smoothed with general toning.
