Description

John Hancock Military Appointment Signed. One page with integral blank, 7.25" x 11.75", "Commonwealth of Massachusetts," October 5, 1787, appointing "Stephen Robbins jun . . . Quarter Master of the third Regiment, in the first Brigade and in the third Division of the militia in this Commonwealth comprehending the County of Middlesex." Countersigned by John Avery as secretary of the commonwealth. Docketed on the verso. Hancock's distinguished signature and paraph are bold. Weakened folds have separated in places. Minor detachment has been repaired with tape. Scattered areas of foxing.
