Description

Robert Pinkerton Autograph Letter Signed "Robt. A. Pinkerton." Two pages, 8" x 10.25", on Pinkerton National Detective Agency letterhead, New York, December 20, 1879, to Robert Gilchrist Jr., the former attorney general of New Jersey, now in private practice in Jersey City, regarding a change of testimony in a case the agency is working on. It seems that a man named Amoux has changed his mind and now accuses George Britton, "a notorious swindler & suborner of perjury," of inducing "him by offers of money to give his last testimony in the Lewis Will case." Folds. Slight separation along the folds at the right edge. At the time of the writing of this letter, Pinkerton, the brother of Pinkerton Detective Agency founder, Allan Pinkerton, was superintendent of the agency.
