Description

Calvin Coolidge: Signed & Numbered Limited Edition of The Autobiography of Calvin Coolidge. (New York: Cosmopolitan Book Corporation, 1929), first edition, 247 pages, gray cloth boards backed in blue cloth with gilt lettering on the spine, 8vo (6.25" x 9.5"), protected by the original gray slipcase and a modern custom blue quarter leather slipcase with marbled paper boards and gilt spine lettering. Numbered 495 of 1,000 limited edition copies and signed "Calvin Coolidge" on the limitation page. Printed by William Edwin Rudge, Inc. Illustrated with 12 aquatone photographs. "Silent Cal" was one of the last United States presidents to write his own speeches. Following his one and a half terms in the White House (he stepped into the presidency when Warren G. Harding died in office in 1923), Coolidge spent most of his career writing, including a newspaper column on current events and this insightful autobiography. He also appeared often on the new medium of radio, somewhat contrary to his own nickname. The private press copy of his autobiography presented here is in fine condition, with only the faintest wear at the spine and corners. The text, printed on gorgeous Crane's Olde Book paper, is virtually flawless. A rare chance at this fine signed edition of Coolidge's Autobiography.
