Michael Faraday Autograph Letter Signed "M. Faraday," two pages, 4.5" x 7", front and verso. London, March 23, 1857. To Professor Miller. On embossed "Royal Institution of Great Britain" stationery. In full, "I have just sent a paper to the Royal Society for you - it is from Professor Plucker of Bonn...it is on magnecrystal quality & contains as he tells me a perfect mathematical theory. When he told me some time ago that he was intending to send a paper to the Royal Society I warned him that it must be original and he tells me that it is so - Of that & its merits you will be a far better judge than I am..." Julius Plücker (1801-1868) was a German mathematician and physicist. In 1858, he published a paper on the action of the magnet on the electric discharge in rarefied gases. English chemist and physicist Michael Faraday (1791-1867) established the basis for the magnetic field concept in physics. Light stains in blank areas on second page. Small rectangular clip stain in upper blank margin on both sides. Fine condition.
