Description
Martially Marked Third Model Colt Dragoon .44 caliber, six shot cylinder, serial number 17162. Approximately 10,500 Third Model Dragoons were produced making it the most numerous with First and Second Model production of approximately 5,000 and 2,700 pieces, respectively. This particular pistol bears the standard 7.5 inch barrel and is configured to accept a detachable shoulder stock with two-leaf rear sight and four-screw frame. A small "U.S." mark appears on the left side of the frame below "COLTS / PATENT." The outline of a cartouche appears on the right side grip. Other markings including "ADDRESS SAML COLT NEW" with the "YORK CITY" presumably under the dovetailed leaf sight and serial numbers visible on the iron backstrap by the toe, front part of the brass trigger guard, frame, barrel lug and top of the loading lever. Mechanically very good, original color is noted on the frame, hammer, trigger and loading lever with the balance turning gray. Some holster wear is evident at the muzzle. The stocks bear the aforementioned cartouche outline and retain much varnish.Auction Info
