Description

Edmund Randolph Signature and an incomplete Autograph Document Signed. The signature in this lot measures 4" x 1" and appears as, "Edm: Randolph." Randolph signs the ADS as "Edm: Randolph." The ADS is 1 page, 7.5" x 4.5", np, February 19, 1787. In part, "Gent: Be pleased to send by bearer twenty wt. of single sugar, six lbs. of brown, one wash hand basin, one bottle of mustard & a bottle of oil, one quart of painters oil, and ½ bushel of alum salt & 2 ½ gallons of molasses…" Randolph, a delegate from Virginia, served in the Revolutionary Army and was aide-de-camp to General Washington; attorney general of Virginia in 1776; Member of the Continental Congress 1779-1782; first attorney general of the United States in Washington's Cabinet. Randolph also served as defense lawyer for Aaron Burr during his treason trial.

The document and signature are in Fine condition. Both have been clipped from larger documents. The ADS is creased at folds and has uneven edges: a small printed biography of Randolph has been affixed to the page as well. From the Henry E. Luhrs Collection. Accompanied by LOA from PSA/DNA.
