Description

A Virtually Unimprovable Example

Lincoln & Hamlin: A Superb 1860 Jugate Campaign Ribbon. A stunning yellow silk ribbon, with oval salt prints attached, listed as AL-3 on page 122 of Sullivan & Fischer's American Political Ribbons and Ribbon Badges 1825-1981. We have seen several examples over the years, but all have had significant condition issues and light to almost-gone images. Salt prints tend to be found very light, and although the images on the present example are a bit that way, they are well above average for the type. A couple of minor discolorations from the bleed through of the original adhesive are also typical, and can be seen on the plate example in Sullivan & Fischer as well. The ribbon itself is in great shape, marred only by being torn irregularly on the top edge. It would be hard, if not impossible, for the serious Lincoln or ribbon collector to improve on this example. 2" x 8".
