Description
Apollo-Soyuz Test Project - Four Signed First Day Covers postmarked July 15, 1975, at Kennedy Space Center, Florida celebrating the release of Scott #1569-70. This mission was the historic first joint project between the U.S. and Soviet space programs and took place in 1975. The American crew, in an Apollo spacecraft, consisted of Commander Tom Stafford, Command Module Pilot Vance Brand, and Docking Module Pilot Deke Slayton. The Russian crew, in the Soyuz 19 spacecraft, consisted of Commander Aleksei Leonov and Engineer Valery Kubasov. All five men have signed each of these covers, three of which are Official First Day Covers with Artcraft cachets (addressed) each featuring one pair of stamps. The fourth cover is of a larger #10 size, without a cachet, but a massive plate block of four of these oversize stamps; it has a bit of light staining on the left side. The others are very fine. From the estate of Dr. D. Owen Coons, Chief of NASA's Manned Spacecraft Center Medical Office.Auction Info
