Description
Abraham Lincoln, Candidate for President, Sends His Autograph. Letter Signed "A. Lincoln", 1 page, 7.5" x 5.25", Springfield, August 14, 1860. To G. W. Wilson. Some mounting traces on verso, and a pencil note at bottom, but the center section containing text and bright signature is fine. Imagine: candidate Lincoln did not make a single speech in 1860. Instead he set up shop in the governor's room in the State House, greeted visitors - saying little of consequence - and, this letter reveals, signed autographs. In full: "Dear Sir. Herewith I send you my autograph, which you request. Yours truly..." Accompanied by LOA from PSA/DNA.Auction Info
