Description
Confederate Broadside, "A Patriotic Musical Festival, Proposed By Some Public Spirited Ladies Of Charleston In Aid Of The Ladies' Gunboat Will Be Presented At The Hibernian Hall..." (Charleston: Evans & Cogswell, 1862), one page, 6.5" x 13.75". The program consists of fourteen musical selections ranging from "God Save the South" to "La Marseillaise". Tickets were fifty cents...Confederate, of course. Moderate foxing with smoothed folds. Nearly very good condition, which is an exceptionally high grade for surviving Confederate paper. From Richmond to Mobile, Southern ladies organized "gunboat societies" to raise funds for coastal defense. The Charleston ladies succeeded in getting two such vessels afloat: The C.S.S. Palmetto State and the C.S.S. Charleston.Auction Info
