Description
Mammy and Child Mechanical Bank. Manufactured and designed by Kyser & Rex with a patent of 1884, this is one of the most sought after of mechanical bank designs. With an opened mouth child on her lap, the Mammy spoons a coin into the baby's mouth once activated. An alternate slot is provided for the coin and appears on the bank as the Mammy's apron pocket. In most cases this bank is missing the ever-important spoon, but this example is complete and in working condition. As the spoon tips, the Mammy's head nods and the child's legs rise upward. Paint condition is good with the piece showing areas of wear, not uncommon for this type. The red head wrap and scarf remain bright as well as the polka dotted blanket under the child. Not often available is the key that locks the original trap on the bottom. An excellent example sure to please!Auction Info
