Description

Confederate Saber, Attributed to Lt. William Bennett Bean of the Baltimore Light Artillery by Tradition. 35-1/2" unmarked curved blade with single wide fuller. Unmarked three-bar brass guard with slab type inner knucklebow [see plate 134, page 115 of Confederate Arms by Albaugh]. Wooden grip with remnants of old copper wire-wrap. Contained in original associated steel scabbard with two ring mounts. Consignor notes that these type swords were thought by Albaugh to be from the "Dog River" Arsenal. No accompanying paperwork or documentation is available. William B. Edwards Collection.

Condition: Fair. Metal with heavy wear, brown patina and scattered pitting overall. Grip without leather and wire wrap. Scabbard with pitting and heavy brown patina. Interesting sword in need of professional restoration.
