hardcover, with all points as called for. First edition points:
Wendy Cooling review printed to the upper board, lower board with
"Philospher's" and "Wizardry and Witchcraft" misprints and an
illustration of a young wizard, copyright page with the author's
full name listed as "Joanne Rowling," and without a space between
"Taylor and "1997," and "1 wand" listed twice on page 53.Octavo. 223, [1, blank] pages. Publisher's pictorial boards, illustrated by Thomas Taylor.
In what has now become a wonderful annual routine, the ever-expanding Wizarding World has conjured up another delightful copy of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. Errington notes that both the hardback and paperback first editions of this title "...were published on the same date and neither has bibliographical priority," in a total edition of 5,650 copies. However, the hardcover edition remains notably scarcer, as only 500 copies in this binding were produced, chiefly for distribution to public libraries; as such, it remains the cornerstone of any Harry Potter collection.
Condition: Binding with a slight lean, minor edgewear, corners a touch bumped and rubbed, boards faintly scuffed, spine somewhat faded, head and tail pushed. Text block toned, as typical; front hinge somewhat loose, scattered staining to pages 47-49, 67, and 105; a few corners lightly creased. Otherwise, internally clean and tight. A near-fine copy.
