Description
Very Scarce, Martially Marked, Henry Nettleton Inspected, Colt Single Action Army Revolver, #47425 matching, Manufactured 1878. Standard configuration, 7½" barrel, .45 caliber. Nettleton is one of the rarest of the Colt SAA inspectors having examined only about 3000 guns. First type ejector, three line patent date, and US on frame. The one piece walnut grip retains legible inspectors' cartouches, with 1878 above the cartouche on the left side. The gun retains about 60% of a period, if not original (despite the anomaly that claim represents) nickel finish. The gun shows absolutely NO signs of having been refinished, the markings being as sharp, deep, and crisp as the day they were struck, with a deep dark patina on the inside of the die stampings. Most parts with deep crisp HN inspector's marks. The metal where the finish is worn is generally smooth and dark gray with just a touch of very light pitting at the juncture of the barrel and the top of the frame, and the face of the cylinder. There are also some minor small dents at the back of the barrel and ejector housing on the right side. Fine bore, mechanically as tight and crisp as the day it was made.
