Description
"D. B. Cooper" 1971 Ransom Money. Serial #L01781113A. Series 1969 $20 Federal Reserve Note. Certified and encapsulated by PCGS Currency with a custom insert picturing the 1971 artist's sketch of the sunglasses-wearing skyjacker. Found by eight-year-old Brian Ingram along the banks of the Columbia River in Washington on February 10, 1980, this is one of the only known group of currency notes that can be linked to the historic and infamous event.All the notes from this group were damaged by their exposure to the elements. This present example is approximately 4.5" x 1.5" with a near-complete Jackson portrait, one complete serial number (the other missing only the "L"), and the handwritten initials of the FBI agent who originally inventoried the bills soon after Ingram discovered them.
The D. B. Cooper Story (I): Northwest (Orient) Airlines flight 305 left Washington, D.C. at 8:30 AM on November 24, 1971 (the day before Thanksgiving) as usual, with stops scheduled in Minneapolis and Portland (among others) before reaching its final destination of Seattle, Washington. A man listed as "Dan Cooper" on the manifest, wearing sunglasses and a dark business suit, boarded the plane in Portland and took seat 18-C in the rear of the 727-100. No one took particular notice of him, not yet anyway.
