Description
Jean-Baptiste Edouard Detaille. "The Cavalryman". Image size 9 ½" x 7 ¼". Drypoint. Signed "Edouard Detaille / 1874" at the lower left. Edouard Detaille was one of the more popular artists of the 19th century. He produced numerous works portraying scenes of military life and was noted for the intensity and detail he brought to his work. In fact, he became the semi-official painter of the French army. This example, "The Cavalryman", certainly captures Detaille at his finest. There is some toning at the edges of the paper, a reaction from a previous mat, not affecting image, otherwise it is in near fine condition.Auction Info
