Description

Woman's Suffrage: "Suffrage Means Prohibition" Pinback Button. 11/16". This very rare gold on blue celluloid with the slogan "Suffrage Means Prohibition," is quite interesting in that it conflates the woman's suffrage and the prohibition of liquor. Liquor interests in the United States feared that once women got the vote, they would put prohibition into effect. They had good reason for their fears, for many of the early suffragists were also involved in the temperance movement. This example contains the celluloid ribbon, which is generally missing. In fine condition.
