Description

Robert S. Stroud: A Terrific Typed Letter Signed from the Renowned "Birdman Of Alcatraz." Convicted twice of murder, Stroud was imprisoned in 1909 and spent the remaining 54 years of his life in prison, the last 21 in the infamous high-security facility at Alcatraz. His nickname is misleading, because his significant studies of bird pathology actually took place while he was at Leavenworth, Kansas. After his transfer to Alcatraz in 1942, he was held under tight security and unable to pursue his passion. The present three page typed letter, dated 1937, has excellent content, being entirely about the subject matter for which he is so famous. Good condition, with margin annotations presumably in the hand of addressee Fred E. Daw, a fellow bird aficionado.
