Description

Theodore Roosevelt: A 1916-Dated Signed Photo. For one last time, TR was a presidential hopeful in 1916. While the boomlet went nowhere, 1916 items showing a mature Roosevelt have always been sought-after among political collectors. This is the first 1916-dated signed photo we can recall handling.

The sepia-tone studio quality photo carries the embossed imprint of "Pach Bros. NY" in the lower right-hand corner. It is boldly inscribed and signed on the lower margin of the photo itself: "With all the best wishes of Theodore Roosevelt May 26th, 1916" in black fountain pen ink. There is a little minor light staining in the lower border, although the ink has not smeared. There are a couple of fine tears in that bottom border as well, which detract minimally. The photo itself has two fairly large wrinkles/creases in the field, not affecting the portrait. These problems could certainly be mitigated by a good paper or photo conservator, although the photo displays acceptably as it is. The photo is 9" x 12.5", nicely framed to 14" x 18".
