More Information:

John Durst, a veteran of the War of 1812, was the owner of over 36,000 acres in Nacogdoches County. While serving as the Texas representative in Monclova in 1835, Durst learned of Santa Anna's Texas invasion plans. He then mounted a horse and rode over 900 miles to warn Texas, thus earning himself the moniker of the Paul Revere of the Texas Revolution.
