Confederate Texas: Receipt for use of "Negro Quarters". Two pages, partly printed, 8.25" x 10.5", September 30, 1864, [Paris, Texas]. On blue paper with "Confederate States" boldly printed at top, signed by Major William B. Wright. Some weakness at folds; near fine.

"The use of House & Room used as Commisary Store House at Post Paris Texas from July 19th to Sept. 30th 1864. Two months & 13 days at $30.00 per Month . . . $73.00. For the use of one House & Rooms Negro Quarters at Post, Paris Texas from July 19th to Sept 30th 1864 Two months and 13 days at $30.00 per Month . . . $73.00".

 

C.S.A. Quartermaster William Bacon Wright (1830-1895) served in the Confederate House of Representatives from 1861 through 1863. When he signed this receipt certifying "on honor, that the above account is correct and just", he was serving in General Kirby Smith's staff as a major in the quartermaster corps.
