Description

Francis R. Lubbock Land Grant Signed "F. R. Lubbock" as Civil War governor of Texas. One partly printed page, 14.75" x 12.5", December 16, 1861, "City of Austin". Countersigned by General Land Office Commissioner Francis M. White, this document contains docketing on verso which has bled through. With folds, near fine.

More Information:

The document grants to John C. C. Askins "One Hundred and Sixty acres" in "Lamar County on the waters of Pine Creek, a tributary of Red River, about 7 ½ miles West from Paris." Francis Lubbock (1815-1905) was elected governor in 1861 by a mere 124 votes. After his term ended in 1863, he served as a Confederate military officer.
