[John Wesley Hardin] Promise to Pay Note Signed by Mannen Clements, Columbus C. Carroll, and George C. Tennille following 1871 cattle drive to Kansas. One page, 8.25" x 3.5", March 21, 1871, Gonzales. Light dampstaining; very good.

More Information:

All three cowboys have signed the note: on the front of the note, Carroll signs his name promising to pay Clements, a relative of Hardins, $268 for an 1871 cattle drive; on the verso, Clements endorses payment to Tennille, who has signed his own name. All three men were acquaintances of Hardin and are mentioned in Hardin's book, The Life of John Wesley Hardin as Written by Himself. Below the endorsement are fifteen cattle brands and written, "23 beeves $268".
