Republic of Texas: Barnard Bee Appointment Signed "B E Bee". One page, 8" x 10", November 27, 1836, Jackson County, Republic of Texas. This official Republic document appoints F. S. Gray "administrator of the succession of Henry Billings deceased." With docketing on verso. Age-toned; fine.More Information:
Barnard Elliott Bee Sr. (1787-1854) served as the Republic's first treasury secretary under ad interim President David Burnet. Later under President Sam Houston, he served as war secretary, and still later under President Mirabeau, Lamar he served as secretary of state. During the early years of the Republic, he tried in vain to convince Mexico to recognize the Texas Republic.
