More Information:

Barnard Elliott Bee Sr. (1787-1854) served as the Republic's first treasury secretary under ad interim President David Burnet. Later under President Sam Houston, he served as war secretary, and still later under President Mirabeau, Lamar he served as secretary of state. During the early years of the Republic, he tried in vain to convince Mexico to recognize the Texas Republic.
