Description

Apollo 16 Command Module Flown Engraved Spoon in its Original Pouch Directly from the Personal Collection of Mission Commander John Young. This 6.75" long Community Stainless tablespoon is engraved on the handle, "JOHN W. YOUNG/ APOLLO 16 CDR" to the right of an engraved NASA logo. The plastic pouch is 8" x 2.5" with a snap closure on the flap and a piece of Velcro on the back for easy attachment to cabin surfaces. This auction offers a rare opportunity to own both of Young's Apollo 16 flown spoons- one from the Command Module Casper and one from the Lunar Module Orion. Excellent condition and apparently not washed after the mission; it still has food particles adhering to it.

Included with this lot is a signed Letter of Certification from John Young stating: "I hereby certify that the Apollo 16 metal spoon that accompanies this letter, engraved with the NASA emblem, JOHN W. YOUNG and APOLLO 16 CDR, was flown with me to the moon and used aboard the command module during the mission April 16-27, 1972. It has been a part of my personal collection since the mission."
