Description
Apollo 10 Collection of Flown Items (Four) Directly from the Personal Collection of Mission Command Module Pilot John Young, Certified and Signed on the Display Frame. Handsomely mounted on gold felt in a shadowbox frame of 13" x 10" along with an unflown 4" x 4" embroidered mission insignia patch are four items that went along with crewmembers Thomas Stafford, John Young, and Gene Cernan aboard Apollo 10 on its mission to the moon, May 18-26, 1969. The items are as follows: (1) An ivory-colored toothbrush, 6.5" long, in a plastic pouch. Model S-19 Lactona Tooth Tip; (2) A 2.75" long, German-made adjustable-end wrench; (3) A 4" long, German-made flat-head screwdriver with a yellow plastic handle; and (4) A black opaque eye patch, 2.5" x 2", with an attached elastic band. This would have been used in navigating the spacecraft. Apollo 10 was a test mission for the first actual lunar landing. The lunar module, nicknamed Snoopy, separated from the command module (aka Charlie Brown- with Young piloting) and flew to within 8.5 miles of the moon while Young was the first man to orbit the moon solo. On the return flight to Earth, they achieved a still-standing manned vehicle speed record of 24,791 mph. All items in excellent condition.On the back panel of the shadowbox, Young has written: "All items except patch flown on Apollo X. John Young".
