Description

Apollo 16 Flown Embroidered Mission Insignia Patch Directly from the Personal Collection of Mission Commander John Young, Signed and Certified. This 4.125" diameter round patch flew with crewmembers John Young, Ken Mattingly, and Charlie Duke aboard the Apollo 16 command module, April 16-27, 1972. The design for this insignia features an eagle with outstretched wings atop a red, white, and blue shield, all above the lunar surface. The NASA logo element vector symbol is across the shield on which is written "APOLLO 16". The blue border contains sixteen silver stars and the surnames of the crew; it is surrounded by a bright yellow border. Young has signed on the verso: "FLOWN/ John W. Young" with great contrast. Excellent.
