Description
"...was attached to the sleeve of my space suit during the three lunar surface EVA's on Apollo 16."
Apollo 16 Lunar Module Flown and Surface-Used Wrist Mirror with Watch Strap Originally from the Personal Collection of Mission Lunar Module Pilot Charlie Duke, with Signed Photo and LOA. A polished metal disc, 1.375" x 1.25" overall with the part number printed on the back of "SDB 12100086-001" and serial number "1010". It is attached to a black Velcro watch strap of approximately 16" x 0.75" with a part number (faint) of "SEB12100030-202" and serial number of "1085" on a sewn-on cloth label. This was worn on the outside of Duke's spacesuit on his right wrist with his watch. There are numerous surface photos available (several included) of this item taken during the three surface EVAs which total more than twenty hours. It is likely that some of the grayish cast could be some of the lunar dust that covered Duke's spacesuit. Included are copies of several documents for added provenance as well as a 10" x 8" NASA color glossy photo (AS16-116-18649) clearly showing this strap on Duke's spacesuit on the lunar surface, signed: "Large Boulder at/ North Rag Crater/ Charlie Duke/ Apollo 16". An amazing opportunity to own a piece of equipment that spent this much time on the surface of the moon. Suitable for the most advanced collections. Very fine condition. From the Steven R. Belasco Collection of Space Memorabilia.Included with this lot is a 1995-dated handwritten and signed Letter of Authenticity on his letterhead stating, in full: "This wrist mirror and Velcro strap was attached to the sleeve of my space suit during the three lunar surface EVA's on Apollo 16."
