Description

Apollo 1 Silver-Colored Fliteline Medallion from the Personal Collection of Mission Pilot Roger Chaffee. A 31mm medal featuring the mission insignia on the obverse depicting a command/service module flying over the southeastern United States. The moon is in the distance, symbolizing the program's eventual goal. The reverse has "WHITE GRISSOM CHAFFEE APOLLO 1" around; the center was left blank where the flight information would have been engraved after the mission. It is still in its original Fliteline case. These obviously never flew, but were prepared to go on the first Apollo mission with Gus Grissom, Ed White II, and Roger Chaffee. Excellent condition.

Included with this letter is a signed letter of authenticity from Martha Chaffee, the widow of the late Roger Chaffee, attesting to its origination in her husband's treasured collection of NASA mementos.
