First edition, first state. Octavo. 266 pages. Illustrated by John R. Neill. Twelve full-color plates.

Publisher's lime green cloth with spine lettered in black. Color pictorial paper label affixed to front board. Housed in a custom red quarter-leather slipcase with gilt spine titles inside five raised bands and a cloth tri-fold chemise. Minor shelf wear to the boards. Light bumping and rubbing to corners. Previous gift inscription on the ownership page, possibly to a member of the Ford auto-making family. Small Detroit bookshop sticker affixed at the bottom of the front free endpaper. Plate facing page 160 has slight surface abrading at the gutter, not affecting the image. Plate facing page 248 and page 248 itself with a small hole near the fore-edge, also not affecting the image.
