Description

André-Marie Ampère Autograph Letter Signed "A. Ampère". Four integral pages written on page one and addressed on page four, 7.25" x 9.5", Paris, August 8, 1827, in French. The letter requests that Laurent Francois Feuillet, head librarian of the Institut de France, grant access to the institute's library to M. Dubamel, a former student of the l'école polytechnique. The great French physicist and mathematician, the father of electromagnetism, ends the letter, "Votre très-humble et très obéssant servt." The ampere (unit for measuring electric current) is named in his honor. Attractively and professionally mounted with a portrait of Ampère (19.5" x 14.25" overall). Very fine.
