Description

1889 Silverton Railroad Pass This 1889 Otto Mears issued railroad pass is stamped on silver, and was presented to H.H. Grafton compliments of Silverton Railroads. The Silverton Railroads served the Silverton mining communities in Colorado around the turn of the 19th century. The Silverton Railroads had four sections which entered the Silverton communities; the Silverton Railroad, the Silverton Northern, the Silverton Gladstone and Northerly, and the Denver/Rio Grande. The railroads did not have a long life but they were very active and prosperous when the mines were working. These passes were issued by Otto Mears to only a select few patrons of his railroad, and it allowed them to ride the rails compliments of Otto himself. The passes all come with a serial number, name of patron, and Otto's signature. This lovely version depicts a vignette of the Colorado countryside as a small train runs through it. A wonderful and rare piece of railroadiana, and mining history!
