Description

Rare Large-Size U.S. Flag Flown to the Moon on Apollo 14.

Apollo 14 Command Module Flown American Flag Signed by and from the Personal Collection of Mission Lunar Module Pilot Edgar Mitchell. This 11.5" x 8" cloth flag was carried by Dr. Mitchell aboard the Kitty Hawk during the nine-day flight of Apollo 14, the third mission to land on the moon. Mitchell has written on the flag, "Flown to the Moon aboard Apollo 14. Edgar Mitchell." This larger size flag is much rarer than the 6" x 4" version and thus more collectible. Excellent condition.

Included in this lot is a signed Letter of Authenticity from Dr. Mitchell on his personal letterhead stating that, "...[this] 8" x 11" United States flag was flown into lunar orbit aboard the command module Kittyhawk on the Apollo 14 mission to the Fra Mauro Highlands region of the moon, January 31 to February 9, 1971. It has been in my personal collection of Apollo memorabilia since that time. Enjoy it in remembrance of that historic event."
