Wonderful Painting of the O.K. Corral Gunfight, Commissioned by John Gilchriese in 1966 for his Legendary Tombstone Museum. This dramatic painting measures 6'6" x 4' and is the largest work ever executed by respected Western artist Don Perceval (1908-1979). Perceval used the original documents in Gilchriese's possession to make this the most accurate, authentic representation of the shoot-out ever created. The artist even traveled to Tombstone to observe the shadow angle of the sunlight on October 26, the date of the gunfight, to ensure the highest degree of accuracy. The depiction was based on a combination of Wyatt Earp's own famous diagram of the shootout, then in Gilchriese's collection, and unpublished notes from John H. Flood's extensive conversations with Earp. The painting represents the instant just before the exchange of gunfire concluded.

The painting was sold in a June 25, 2004 auction of items from Gilchriese's museum held by John's Western Gallery of San Francisco, where it was featured on the cover of the catalog, and sold at that time for $40,250.00. Until recently, it has remained in the private collection of the buyer. Given its historical accuracy and association with the most iconic of names in Tombstone collecting, this would be a wonderful display piece to complement any serious Tombstone collection.
