    Description

Wild West Show Performer: Skyline Bill Archive.
Reminiscent of Clint Eastwood in "Bronco Billy", George "Skyline Bill" Willman performed in Wild West shows long after the real Buffalo Bill was dead and gone. Yet, his career overlapped that of the great scout and showman. He claimed to have known Buffalo Bill. He also claimed to have driven a stagecoach in 1900 between Drummond and Helmville, Montana, trained animals which performed in his own shows which toured the West, trapped game for construction crews in Minnesota and was Deputy Sheriff in Austin, Montana. He also looked incredibly like Buffalo Bill which no doubt aided in his notoriety and stage presence. He performed at the Wigwam Hollow Museum near Vernon, Indiana and appeared on stage at movie theaters, a favorite attraction of the younger set in the early 1940s. He also was a self-promoter who likened himself to Wild Will Hickok, Buffalo Bill and Pawnee Bill. This lot includes a wooden chuck wagon box. It is marked on the outside "G.E.W. Austin Mont" and has two advertising cards attached to the sides with thumb tacks. The interior contains two tin cups, four tin spoons, a tin salt shaker, a leather holster and two leather cuffs. The inside lid also has a photo attached of Skyline Bill and his trained dog as they appeared at the Rio Theater. The group also includes two souvenir booklets, three advertising cards, a damaged snapshot of an elderly Bill and young lady and an 8" x 10" publicity still.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
