    Description

Wally Boone Important Spur Collection. Early West Texas master, Wally Boone, forged each of the 25 pairs of spurs in this, the most extensive, highest quality and best-conditioned assemblage of his work known to exist. Wally Boone opened his first spur shop in West Texas in Lubbock in the 1920s and then moved in the 1930s to San Angelo and then finally to Andrews, Texas. Only P. M. Kelly operated a bigger shop in the West Texas area during this time. Wally Boone is widely recognized as being one of a handful of true early pioneers that shaped and defined what would become the Texas spurs. He was one of twelve early Texas style makers featured in Jane Pattie's groundbreaking book, Cowboy Spurs and Their Makers, published in 1991. Many of the examples in this collection are the only known pattern of their type in collectors' hands. Some of the collection's highlights include: the only "Texas Centennial", four variations of his most popular design, the "Kent Special", the "Pecos Kidd", the "Eagle, Star Half Moon" and what is widely recognized as the best pair of Wally Boone spurs known, a pair elaborately engraved and mounted with Mexican coins, and photographed in two major books on spurs. Collection Provenance and Publications: Exhibited in Representing the West, Sangre De Cristo Arts Center, Pueblo Colorado, September 22 through October 29, 2005. Spurs pictured in Bit and Spur Makers in the Texas Tradition by Ned and Jody Martin, pages 94 and 95, and the book jacket. Spurs pictured in The Spur by David Stoecklein, pages 6, 7, 73, 79 and 80.
