Three Frederic Remington Items, a Letter and Five Drawings. This is a fantastic Fredric Remington archive. Three pages, written in his hand 7" x 8.75", signed twice by Remington. The letter reads as follows: "301 Webster Avenue, New Rochelle Aug 30. My Dear Burdick, It seems strange that my future happiness is locked up in you - but it is so. I have enlisted George Wright subject to your going and Rodgers the artist and myself for a three weeks canoe trip n the upper Ottawa river to start about the 15 of next month (Sept). We can get inguns and canoes up there - It's a great big river - all still water and trout jump into the boat - the moose come splashing into the water and the little black bear ramboles in the underbrush. The wild duck sputters and glides away over the water - the mist rises or hangs over the glassy surface of the river in the morning as the canoe glides along. The injun cuts wood to beat hell or gets the seat of his pants knotted and the hot scotch bubbles on the glowing embers of the camp fire. We get very dirty and as healthy as a hired man and when we are done - it is not forgotten, for is not there the Oct. number of Harpers Magazine with a full account of all the important point, more or less truthfully but always interestingly told by that eminent school Mr. F. Remington Esq.

Now Burdick - you have earned a reputation as a good sport by long work and you mustn't go back on us now. I have George hypnotized - Rogers is the original American canoeist - a good fellow and a handy man on a woods trip. That is the only true wilderness in American except British Columbia - the flies do not bite when the frosty nights set in and the wild fox licks his bole unscared.

I was going West with Miles but if you will depose and say that you will go send me down the papers and it's done. We would have the finest kind of time - it would be better than getting married. It's an ideal crowd - all poets - it's the biggest hunting trip and the easiest thing - & cheap "Inguns" 1 bone per diam - they canoe for $10. - Depew & Burdick furnish the transportation".

[Drawing of Indian paddling canoe with passengers relaxing]
[Drawing of a man shooting a moose with rifle at point blank range with Indian]

You may tie it but how can you beat it.

[Full page with three drawings, each with captions: 4 canoes on river, a campsite with Indians cooking, a man fishing from canoe]

Don't hesitate - say you will go.

    Yours faithfully,
    Frederic Remington

Fine-very fine, adhesive spots left side top & bottom on all three.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
