    Artistry in Silver and Leather

Stunning Edward H. Bohlin, Hollywood, California Sterling Silver Parade Saddle With Matching Bridles, and Breastplate. Possibly the most sought after saddle of all the Ed Bohlin models since it was first introduced to movie stars and dandies in the 1930s. Built on a Miles City tree with 14" swells, a 15" seat, 31.25" skirt, and a 4" cantle. This beautiful saddle, an exquisite work of utilitarian art, features a 3" sterling-silver bison-head horn cap with perimeter rope edging atop a 3.5" high solid-silver rope-motif horn. The edge of the cantle features the same sterling-silver rope design and the rear of the candle is ornately engraved with floral decoration and with a blank sterling silver presentation/owner's plaque. The sterling-silver gullet is fully engraved with complimentary floral decoration. The jockeys and skirt are bordered in a series of alternating sterling diamonds and half-diamonds with elaborately engraved sterling corners. A sterling silver-shield mounted near the top of the seat bears the Bohlin maker information, a Texas longhorn and a former owner's name which has been obliterated. The 10.5" wide fenders are bordered along the rear edge in the same alternating sterling diamond and half-diamond pattern as the jockeys and skirts. The 21" tapaderos are likewise festooned with engraved sterling diamonds and half-diamonds as well as with small round sterling-silver buttons and a single sterling-silver concho and large florally-engraved sterling silver tips. All the leather saddle strings are present. The black leather is lavishly tooled with floral decoration.

The saddle is complete with matching leather breastplate liberally decorated with sterling silver diamond and half-diamond mounts and engraved nickel buckles. The breastplate is marked "Edw. H. Bohlin, Inc./ Maker/ Hollywood, Cal." on the reverse. The matching Bohlinmade bridle is likewise decorated. The saddle, breastplate and saddle blanket are in excellent condition; the bridle is in need of some minor repair to a small leather strap though fortunately all sterling and nickel hardware remains. This is an exceptional example of this much sought-after parade saddle.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
