    Stereoview of Fort Laramie, Wyoming Territory Peace Council ca 1868. Rare, albumen stereoview taken from life by Alexander Gardner of the Fort Laramie Peace Council with the, Northern Plains Indians, (Oglala Dakotas) this photograph was taken inside the Council tent. Sioux Chief "Young Man Afraid of his Horses", has just passed the peace pipe to one of the Peace Commissioners who is smoking the pipe, this was not a posed or staged view, the photographer Gardner took this very journalistic photograph and captured the Peace council actually smoking a peace pipe in 1868. Un-published view. On verso of image in period ink; No 88 Interior of Council Chamber man afraid of his Horses in Centre. There is an image in "Peaceful Encounters", page 35 of this incident but not this image.
