    Self Portrait of L. A. Huffman, Montana, 1926. Laton Alton Huffman moved to Miles City, Montana Territory in 1879 at the age of 25. He had come to be the post photographer at nearby Fort Keogh. Soon after the Custer battle of 1876, Fort Keogh was established to provide military assistance in eastern Montana. He was appointed the post photographer, an unpaid position that provided a dirt floor log studio and an opportunity to make and sell photographs.

Huffman sitting in studio staring intently at the camera with his great hat, pin-striped suit and spotted tie. In period ink on verso: "L. A. Huffman post photographer Fort Keogh Mont. Ter. to C. E. Zink from W. R. Felton". Measures approximately 7.25" x 9.5".
