Riata And Spurs. Comprising: 1) Pair of Western Spurs Marked: L.D. Stone/S.F. The western spurs, having engraved steel bands with stationary steel buttons, the outer sides overlaid with engraved silver panels surmounted with a large engraved silver button. Chap guards are overlaid with silver and have a copper rivet that crosses through the guard to the inside. Drop shanks with 10-pointed rowels flanked by silver spots and steel pins. Double heel chains. Floral hand-tooled leather straps with domed Mexican peso outer decorative buttons. Nickel-plated rectangular buckles. Inside bands marked: L.D. Stone/S.F. [San Francisco] . Stone opened his doors in 1852 and the name Stone was bought by Kempky and Gilham in 1888 and they employed 40 men and three salesmen. Their firm merged with Main & Winchester in 1905 and with Keyston Brothers in 1912. The early mark of Stone, that of an extended left hand, is not found on the bands of this pair of spurs, strongly suggesting that they were made in or later than 1888. 2) 36 Ft. Leather 4-Strand Braided Riata. The 4-strand braided leather riata with integral leather hondo. Condition: 1) Spurs. Very good. Showing age wear and patina overall. Leather straps of later manufacture. 2) Riata. Very good. Showing age wear and scuffs.
