Old West Steamship and Railroad Paper. A large, displayable invoice for a variety of goods (from whiskey barrels and tobacco to matches, cheese, and saddlery) being shipped from T.C. Power and Bros. to the post trader at Fort Benton, Montana in 1878. This was still a frontier just two years after Little Big Horn, with hostile Indians still on the loose.

Also an 1886 steamboat pass in the name of T. C. Power. President and general manager of Benton Transportation Co., Power was one of the biggest businessmen of that era, with a far flung empire of retail businesses, banks, flour mills, mining concerns, cattle and sheep companies, and transportation companies in the West. He was elected U.S. Senator from Montana in 1890 when the territory became a state.

The broadside-size document measures an impressive 10" x 16". Both document and card are in excellent condition.
